Managing projects, time and deadlines

Trusting someone new with an important project isn’t easy. I’m a professional, so here’s my pledge to you:

  • I don’t take on more projects than I can handle
  • I keep a production schedule running that shows me what needs to be done each day, each week and each month. This ensures I manage my time carefully and can see at a glance whether I have scope for additional projects and makes sure I keep track of deadlines
  • Deadlines – we all hate them but they’re a necessary evil. I’ve built my reputation on achieving my deadlines. If you promise to get me everything I need to get the job done by the deadlines I set, and you deliver, I will make sure to meet the deadlines you set

Communication

I believe that good communication is the foundation for any lasting relationship, and I take your projects as seriously as you do, that means:

  • I will keep you updated on the progress of your projects at regular intervals via email, or on the phone
  • I won’t be afraid to ask questions, I’d rather look silly, than get something wrong because of an incorrect assumption
  • If you have questions please ask and I will answer them as quickly as possible. If I am not sure about an answer, I will investigate further and revert
  • On bigger projects, there will be weekly status reports submitted via email
  • If needed I am available for onsite status meetings but these will be charged at an hourly rate

Quotes, Contracts, Terms and Conditions and Invoices

I operate as a sole proprietor, but I operate in the same way as any professional company, with quotes and invoices, contracts, and clear terms and conditions

  • I make sure that we all understand our deliverables, and put a timeline in place to ensure deadlines and expectations are met
  • Each project is different so depending on your requirements and the amount of work involved, I will quote you on a per word rate, a project fee or in some cases, I will submit an hourly rate or a retainer proposal
  • I work on a 50% upfront and 50% on completion bases (with the exception of retainer agreements, which are paid in advance by the 25th of each preeeding month)
  • My easy to understand Terms and Conditions and my Briefing Template are available for download

Working Hours and Location

I work well with local and international clients. As a freelancer I operate remotely from my base in Sandton, Johannesburg.

  • Office hours are 08:30 – 17:00 Monday through Friday
  • Should you require a rush-job or ask me to take on work that will require an after-hours commitment, there will be a surcharge for that project
